At the end of this long, pleasant yet exhausting process of breathing life into a scale model, there is painting. It is always the painter’s responsibility—in our case, a female artist—to make the miniature “come alive.” Everything then revolves around the chromatic choices the painter will make: the alchemy of light and shadow, the handling of color and the quality of its application. Through her/his direction, the scale model can become more or less dramatic, more or less poetic. For this figure, we entrusted this responsibility to a Master of miniature painting: Arianna Cipriani, who had previously demonstrated her exquisite skill and sensitivity.

In painting this Militia Models release, the treatment of the fur plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall figure. Observing a photograph of a common brown bear, one notices that the fur comprises multiple tones ranging from black to brown to grey.
After priming the model with black Titans Hobby spray primer, I applied a second base coat using AK Brown Black mixed with AK Grim Brown, reinforcing the shadows with pure black acrylic. (...)
